Fort Lewis College - summary

The Skyhawks opened the season with a 22-6 victory over the Sooners of Oklahoma in Albuquerque, NM. FLC was happy to escape the three feet of snow that has fallen on Durango the last two weeks, playing under sunny skies and 60 degree weather in New Mexico. A great team victory with 11 of the 17 players that day getting points. Senior Captain Chad Murphy (5G, 3A)and Matt Lindsley (3G, 5A)led the team with eight points each. The Skyhawks took a 17-3 lead into the fourth quater. Goalie Peter Gavinksi had 10 saves, allowing 6. Thanks to Coach Westfall and Mooney of UNM for hosting this game.

University of Oklahoma - summary

The Sooners knew going into saturday's game that it would not be an easy test. Fort Lewis was ranked #7 in Division B and proved to be a tough opponent. With the mountains as the backdrop for the game the Sooners could not keep up with the Fort Lewis scoring. The Sooners had trouble getting into the game until the 4th quarter, but it was too little too late.
